Read the secret British Army files covering the Battle of St. Matthews.
Paper Trail discovered secret British military files relating to the Battle of St. Matthew's in June 1971 and shared them with local groups in time for the 50th anniversary.
You can read our 50th-anniversary article here.
Other victims and survivors in the area have asked to read them so we have bundled them along with the anniversary article and uploaded them to the cloud.
NEW EVIDENCE
Paper Trail is opening these files to victims and survivors which will save family researchers hundreds of hours of work.
The files include previously unpublished British Army 39 Brigade files that record the flow of information from British Armed Forces on the ground that tumultuous weekend.
Important information includes the operational orders for British Armed Forces and their movements across Belfast during widespread communal violence.
Even though such military records tend to be perfunctory and prosaic, you can map the panic and horror as violence erupts across the city.
Victims and Survivors can access these historic bundles after filling in this online monitoring form and marking that you wish to access the Battle of St. Matthew's files.
We will then send you access details to Box (cloud storage) where you can read and download the files for your own research. Paper Trail does this manually so please allow a few hours at most to complete your request.
